The Island strikes again.

Rodney McKay woke up that morning feeling just dandy. In fact, he felt gosh darn swell. There were birds tweeting outside his window, sun shining in through the curtains; why, it looked to be a real peachy kind of day, the kind of day where you were just happy to be alive ( Read more... )

There was someone singing a lovely song in her ear.

That was the first thing Jill noticed when she woke up and she stretched, smiling to herself before she even opened her eyes. She knew who it was, she could tell without needing to look and the fact that she knew Rodney so well just reinforced her love for him.

"Good morning," she said happily, opening her eyes. "You sing so well. You should do all the time. Especially to me. Especially to wake me up."

Jill was so gosh darn cute in the mornings, like a small fluffy animal but not the sort you'd go out and shoot with a shotgun. The sort you'd keep round the house and pet, like he was doing now to her forehead.

"Good morning," he said. "I love you," he added. "I love you more than the moon loves the sun and the...trees." It sounded pretty, anyhow, even though he had the unsettling feeling that it didn't make much sense.

Immediately, Jill's smile softened and she sighed happily, feeling cozy and comfortable and loved. Rodney was so... great. He was really great.

"I love you," she said in return, reaching out from under the sheet to take his hand, holding it close to her chest. Right where her heart was beating, only for him. "I love you more than... something really big." It was sort of hard to think when she was so in love.

"That's pretty big," Rodney said, wide-eyed. That was pretty big. He beamed at his lady-love.

"I think...I think we should go up to the Compound and I cook you breakfast," he said. "With lemons," he added, because lemons suddenly sounded like a really good idea. He didn't know why he didn't eat them more often. They were the best vegetable ever.

"Honey, you're allergic to lemons," Jill pointed out, sitting up immediately, looking wide-eyed and concerned. She clutched Rodney's hand to her chest, as if the very act of letting go would mean he would run off to roll in some lemons.

"Won't it cause you to get that... ana... something shock?" she asked, looking awfully lose to tears. "I don't want you to die because your lungs spontaneously combust from that sort of shock thing."

Rodney frowned. He'd forgot about that.

"What does combust mean?" he asked. "Nevermind. I'll make jam. Nobody ever done died from jam." Not that he'd ever heard, anyhow. "Jam on toast! How's that sound? Anythin' for my little lady," he continued, putting a hand on her shoulder and patting, not wanting her to cry or nothing. It'd break his heart in two pieces. Maybe even more than two.

Jill sighed again, but she was sighing happily once more and she smiled at Rodney with adoration. "That sounds like it'll be just the best thing ever," she answered, then leaned forward and kissed him square on the mouth.

"Let me just get dressed and we'll go do that and it'll be the best breakfast we've ever shared," she continued, still smiling happily. Sometimes, when she was with Rodney, she was just so happy that it felt like her heart was going to explode.

"Every breakfast we have together is the best," Rodney said truthfully, beaming so hard he felt like the bottom half of his face was gonna fall off, but he thought he'd be happy even if it did.

He hopped up and bustled around the hut, tidying things while he waited for Jill to get dressed.

Throwing back the covers, Jill found some of her clean clothes nearby and got dressed, wishing she had left a dress somewhere in Rodney's hut. A dress would be perfect on a day like today, when she felt like twirling and swirling.

"I'm ready," she said, brushing her hair quickly and then holding her hands out to Rodney. "Let's go have breakfast together. And then after breakfast, we should find our friends and bring them jam, too!"

Rodney took a moment to admire her. Gosh darn, but she was beautiful. "You look beautiful," he said, taking her hands. "More beautiful than a summer's day in Memphis." Never mind the fact he didn't think he'd ever been to Memphis, least of all in summer. Oh well.

"We should take Cameron some jam!" he agreed, after a moment's thought. "Maybe he can use some in those lovely pies he bakes. I wish I could bake pies like him," he sighed. "That man has a real gift."

When Rodney complimented her, Jill blushed deeply, feeling all sorts of tingly and happy. He was so nice to her all the time, it was no wonder she loved him so much when he was always so nice.

"We should do that," she said, then led him toward the door, where she knew precious, adorable little Dante was probably sleeping out in the shade. Maybe she should get him a little kitty costume to dress him in. "You have all the best ideas, Rodney."

Rodney blushed too, his whole face going red, and he mumbled humbly: "Nawww. Was your idea, honeybuns, I just expa...exapend...added onto it some."

He walked out onto the porch with Jill and took a moment to enjoy the sunshine. It really was a beautiful day.

"You're great," Jill sighed happily, patting Dante's head when he got up to greet them. He was purring, although he seemed to be looking at them curiously. Jill didn't even notice.

Beginning the walk to the Compound, Jill held onto Rodney's hand, swinging it back and forth as they went. "It's such a nice day! Hey, what makes the sun shine so bright? It that like... physics or something?"

Rodney gave the kitty a stroke too, barely noticing when he got growled at. Come to think of it, Dante always growled at him, not that he tried to pat him much. He'd have to change that, he was such a cute little big kitty-cat.

"What's physics?" he asked Jill, frowning at her. He had a feeling he ought to know, or used to know, but he was fine with not knowing now. It didn't seem important.

"It's like... science," Jill explained, feeling really smart for a minute and she grinned brightly again. It wasn't like she was arrogant or anything, she wasn't going to point out to Rodney that she'd said something really smart. That just wasn't like her at all.

"But whatever, science is boring," she continued, waving her hand dismissively. "Let's talk about something else."

"It surely is," Rodney agreed vehemently. He was pretty sure he used to like it, but tastes changed. Like how he was pretty sure he didn't used to like lemons, but now he was having a craving.

"What do you want to talk about?" he asked cheerfully, squeezing her hand.
