WRITING CHALLENGE!

Aug 28, 2008 14:11

You are a PPC agent, protecting the canon of your choice from incursions by Mary Sue's, character hijackers, and bad writing in general. You are chilling out in your office when suddenly, an ear-splitting alarm sounds and all the lights begin to flicker. A voice from the loudspeaker tells you that there has been an accident in R&D. Experimental technology... containment breach... parallax levels rising. Everyone is told to seal off their floors and stuff wet towels under the doors. You scurry to comply, but thirty seconds later, a second voice orders all personnel to evacuate headquarters immediately. Within minutes, PPC Central will be flooded with radiation. All staff are ordered to activate their dimensional gateways and get out, or risk dying of cancer in eight different stories going backwards through time.

You have sixty seconds. You can escape into any story, any canon, any piece of fiction or fanfiction. But you must go NOW! What do you do?

The replicator in your office will supply you with any appropriate attire and accessories that you have time to order. It will also supply you with PPC standard equipment: a dimensional portal activator, a character monitor, communications devices, and all canon-appropriate weaponry. But you don't exactly have a shopping list at the moment.

As a PPC agent, you will be almost undetectable to canon characters, unless you take the trouble to make yourself conspicuous, e.g. by flagging them down and engaging them in conversation. (Or if you have some pre-established history or another good reason.) So no need to worry about the trouble your sudden appearance will cause... at least at first.

Once inside the story, you can use your dimensional gateway to move between chapters, locations, and/or time frames. What you can't do is leave! You cannot leave the story without going through PPC headquarters and getting your component molecules scrambled.

You have no idea when it will be safe to return. Hours? Days? Who knows if Makes-Things and his crew will ever get the place decontaminated? Thankfully, after 15 hours, you receive the all-clear signal. What have you done in that time?

Summary: You have 15 hours to spend in the canon of your choice, supplied only with what you can think of and replicate within 60 seconds. Where do you go, and what do you do there?
