Day: Monday, July 10th, 2006.
Location: Owensboro, Kentucky.
Time: Noon to three pm
Meet Up Point: Towne Square Mall
Final Location: Corner of 18th Street and Frederica St. (across the street from Owensboro High School)
Dick Cheney is coming to Owensboro, Kentucky to help raise money for Ron Lewis's re-election campaign. Middle America is often ignored in the national arena of politics and this is the perfect opportunity for regular Americans to chip in to the national discussion.
This event is to protest the current administration whether or not it will make a significant impact nationally. We are not looking to divide along political lines but rather to express disgust with our government's actions to the American people as a whole. We want everyone to be there, regardless of your beliefs or political party.
The goal of this protest is to raise awareness to the problems that face our country from the last six years with Bush in office
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- NSA Wiretapping Program
- Swift Bank Tapping Program
- Rising college tuition costs
- Guantanamo Bay
- throwing the election in 2004 for re-election
- Leaking of CIA agents names to the press by Cheney's personal secretary
- Halliburton’s no-bid contracts from the US Government for the reconstruction of Iraq
- The War in Iraq (we support our troops, but not to get shot and killed for a lie)
- anything within reason that has pissed you off in the last six years that is the result of the current administration’s policies and actions
If you don’t know what this stuff is about, google it and read. It’s scary stuff.
Information for those attending:
The idea is to start at 18th and Frederica and work our way out. Remember in grade school where they would have you hold your arms out and that would be your personal space? That’s the idea here: Start in the center and work your way out as far on both sides as possible. An advantage of getting there early is that you’ll be in the shade. The further out you go, the less trees there are, making it hot and sticky and nasty.
Make sure to stay on the sidewalk. The Owensboro Police Department said that as long as we stay on the sidewalk, we’re on public property and it’s cool. If you’re in the grass of someone’s front yard, that’s not cool and you can get in trouble.
The following is a list of do’s and don’ts if you plan on attending.
Do not bring:
- Vulgar or offensive signs. Yes, you can get in trouble if you offend someone and there is a lesser chance that you will be on television or in the paper if your sign is tasteless.
- Hooligans. Hooliganary is not a good thing right by the side of the road.
- Anarchists hell bent on going to jail. Leave your anarchy at home, please. This is to be a peaceful and civil protest and anyone who wants to be there for the sole purpose of going to jail or causing needless trouble will not be tolerated.
Please do bring:
- Yourself.
- Others like yourself.
- Sunscreen, a hat, something to drink or other ways to keep from getting burnt or overheated. This event is in July and should be planned for accordingly.
- Creative banners and signs. Just because you can’t have an offensive one doesn’t rule out an interesting statement on a sign or banner. This also means you have a better chance of being on TV or in the paper if the news media shows up, if that’s your thing.
- If a person is yelling things at you that you disagree with, bring your ‘better man‘ with you. Don’t yell back. Do something constructive, like sing a song at the top of your lungs, or find a way to ignore them. Think ‘Gandhi’ while they’re yelling at you because all they want to do is get you in trouble. You have just as much of a right to believe how you believe in America as they do.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call my phone or send me an email. All responses will be answered in a timely manner.
