Rain tried to slip in unnoticed, unsuccessfully attempting to hush the herald, but smiled shyly when she saw Mat. She stuck close by him, doing her best to just blend in with the background.

Tony had already been at the ball for a while, dancing with Cat most of the time and mingling the rest. Once he saw Rain and Mat though, he detached himself from his date and moved over to the couple.

"Rain, you look even more gorgeous than normal," he told her, smiling. It was good to see her here, he knew she wasn't crazy about social situations but he thought this might be good for her.

And she did look gorgeous. Incredibly so.

Rain blushed furiously. "Thank you, Tony."

Tony beamed even more at seeing her blush, she really did look radiant. Mat was a lucky guy to have brought her.

"You're welcome, Rain," he told her. "You promise to save me a dance? If it's okay with Mat."

Rain ducked her head. "I'm not so good at dancing, but I will if you want." She beamed up at Mat. "Mat won't mind. He's very good to me."

"Good, you deserve someone like that," he told her. "Can I have my dance right now? I'm sure there will be a huge line up of men asking for you to dance."

"Tony... there so won't be," Rain protested. "But yes, you can have your dance now."

She glanced up at Mat again to make sure that was okay, then turned back to Tony with a smile, though her face looked slightly worried. "I'm not so good though."

Tony leaned in close so that he could whisper low into Rain's ear, like he was sharing a big secret with her.

"That's alright," he murmured as he lead her onto the dance floor. "I'm not all that great either. Don't worry about how you look, just worry about relaxing and enjoying yourself. You look so beautiful people won't remember how you danced, just how you looked."

She ducked her head into his shoulder. "As long as they don't remember me because I look so silly."

Well since you don't look silly you don't have to worry about that," he assured, her, pulling her close as he moved her onto the dance floor.

"You really do look gorgeous. But then, you always do."

Rain swallowed hard as he pulled her close. He gave her that wanting more feeling too, but she had to be sure never ever to let him know. She could feel her heart pounding, but hoped he would just think it was because she was so nervous.

"Lucky me, anyway. Everyone will be watching you."

Tony settled his left hand on her lower back and took her own hand with his right one as he began to slowly move in time to the music.

"Only because they're jealous that I'm with you," he assured her.

She blushed again, feeling stiff and nervous about being in his arms. "You're so good to me."

"And you're very good to me," he told her as he continued to dance.

"Just relax, Rain," he added. "Just focus on enjoying yourself."

Rain nodded and tried to do just that, trying to remember the way she'd danced with Mat. She tripped over her own toes a little, ending up even closer to Tony and finally gave up and just rested her head on his shoulder, letting the movement of his body lead her.

Tony didn't mind the tripping, especially because it brought her a bit closer to him. He liked the feel of her against him, it made him feel like he could protect Rain from everything. Cat wouldn't like it but he'd deal with that later.

"See, isn't this nice?" he asked.
