Lana: *It's the afternoon before the celebrations of New Years. Lana recently found out she was invited to Jake Marshall’s party and goes upstairs to break some news to Ema. She lightly raps on the door.* Ema… are you busy? Can I come in?
Ema: Yeaaaah~ Come on in. *The girl calls back over her shoulder from where she sits at her computer desk*
Lana: *She opens the door, looking over the rather messy room.* I thought I told you to clean up...? A-Anyways *She pauses for a moment.* Jake Marshall is having a... meeting... of sorts. *She tries her hardest to make it sound dull and boring, to ease her worries.*
Ema: Oh, I know! *She chirps happily, pointing to her computer screen* I saw his entry on it-- we're gonna be going, right?
Lana: *She sighs, turning her head away.* Well, I will be going. But unfortunately... *She takes a deep breath* …You're too young to go.
Ema: ... *The girl frowns slowly* What? But it says right here, every one is invited.
Lana: I guess that is correct... *Lana frowns as well* …However, this is a bar we're talking about. *Her face changes from sad to serious, yet happy* I think you'll be happy with the alternative...
Ema: *She scowls hard, arms folding defiantly beneath her chest* So what if it's a bar? It's Mr. Marshall's bar. I wouldn't drink anything, Lana! I swear! I don't want to stay home, or go to some stupid high school party thing…
Lana: *Lana is surprised Ema would say anything like that, but then laughs a bit* You think I'd be that bad? I would never leave you home... I got an idea from a certain someone that I think you'll enjoy. *She chuckles a bit*
Ema: *Ema looks suspiciously over at the older woman* Which... certain someone...?
Lana: *She starts talking in semi-riddles, reverting back to her self thanks to Ema's perking up* A certain someone you know very well.
Ema: *Ema's arms remain folded, and she shifts a bit in her chair* Ugh, I don't know who you're talking about still.
Lana: *She sighs, shaking her head slightly.* I think a one Miles Edgeworth would ring a bell?
Ema: H-huh? *As predicted, she perks up, arms uncrossing quickly* Mr. Edgeworth? What about him?
Lana: Well, I talked to him recently and he mentioned going to a New Year's party. *She starts to smile.* And he'll be picking you up tonight.
Ema: *She bolts up from her chair, nearly slipping a bit as it slides against the carpet* No way! What? A-A party with Mr. Edgeworth?
Lana: W-Would I ever lie to you? Yes a party with Mr. Edgeworth. *She claps her hands together.* You'll be going to the Gavin's place so I think it'd be wise to dress up... possibly? *She looks at the lab coat.*
Ema: Oh wow, Lana that's so awesome-- Oh! I need to start my laundry then and---....
Ema: Wait.
Ema: The... Gavin's... place?
Lana: What's wrong with the Gavins?
Ema: *The girl frowns* Nothing... I guess. But, Lana... ugh. *she flops down, this time onto her bed*
Lana: *Lana frowns, walking towards Ema's bed.* But, I'd thought you'd like it… I could always call Mr. Edgeworth and tell him you'd rather not go...
Ema: Nooo... *She huffs, puffing out her cheeks* Don't do that. I guess... It'll be cool going with Mr. Edgeworth... Are you sure we both can't just go to Mr. Marshall's bar though?
Ema: It'll be fun! I promise Lana, you wouldn't have to worry about me!
Lana: *She sighs; she knew it'd be hard to convince her otherwise, so she opts for Plan B* I'm sorry... but my answer is no. *She gets a serious look on her face* And that's final, alright?
Ema: ... *Ema still frowns at her sister, but keeps her mouth shut this time around* ... Fine. Alright. When do I need to start getting ready?
Lana: *She starts to smile, slightly as Ema is still frowning* He said he'd call, but I'd wager it'd be soon. So I'd start getting ready now? *She laughs.* I know how long it takes you to get ready.
Ema: *She huffs again, and flops a bit on her mattress* ...... Will you help iron one of my shirts then? They're really messy from being on the floor... *she mumbles, not quite meeting the woman's eyes*
Lana: ... *She grabs one of the shirts off the floor.* You mean this? *She shakes her head* What would you ever do without me? I did a load of laundry and a few of your shirts were in it. They should be in the laundry room...
Ema: *She sighs, and rolls onto her back, a small frown still tugging at her lips* Is the green one I like clean? You know, the long-sleeved one? I need the tank top to wear under it though too. *she continues on, in a less than enthused tone*
Lana: *She thinks* Green....You know, I do remember washing a green long-sleeve shirt. *She says while walking towards the door. She turns to face Ema* So you go and get ready okay? I have to get ready for tonight as well.
Ema: *The girl gives another long, drawn out sigh before sitting back up* Okaaaaay...
Lana: Good, then I'll be going then. *She waves and closes the door behind her.*
***
Lana: *She pinches her forehead and breaths deeply. She can't believe she lied to her sister... somewhat.* I hope Edgeworth doesn't mind a last minute favor...*She sighs, walking to her room down the hall, closing the door.*
Lana: *Lana pulls out her cell phone, navigating her way to Miles Edgeworth's number. She hovers her finger over the talk button. She knew he'd be going to the party, but would he be willing to pick Ema up last notice? She finally musters the strength to press down.*
Edgeworth: *Miles' phone rings just as he's stepping out of the shower. He puts on a robe and answers it.* Hello?
Lana: Hello, Mr. Edgeworth. This is Lana speaking. *She starts to nibble on her nails*
Edgeworth: M-Miss Skye! It's... It's been a while, hasn't it? *He sits down on the bed.*
Lana: It's nice to speak to you too. *She starts to ease herself.* I hope I'm not bothering you.
Edgeworth: Er, no, not at all. I was just getting ready for New Year's. *He rubs his hair dry with a towel.*
Lana: Speaking of New Year's... you're going to a party correct? *She checks over her computer monitor about Kristoph's invitation.*
Edgeworth: Yes! Uh, Kristoph Gavin's party. *He leans over, interested.* Uh, you wouldn't happen to be coming, would you?
Lana: *She laughs.* Unfortunately, a rather close friend invited me to a... Saloon.
Edgeworth: Oh, yes, I saw that. I might've gone if it weren't for the fact that Klavier Gavin invited me weeks ago. *He sounds very distantly disappointed.*
Lana: Haha...*She sighs lightly.* Anyways, I don't feel comfortable with Ema being there. So...
Edgeworth: Er, I see. *He sees her point, but he's not sure what to think about it.*
Lana: I don't want her to stay home alone... And since you're going to a different party and she's really quite fond of you... *She straightens up and just spits it out* Would you mind picking up Ema tonight?
Edgeworth: *He sounds as if he's repressing a sigh.* No, no, not at all. Luckily I wasn't planning on drinking tonight, so I'll be able to supervise her without that distraction.
Lana: Really? *She tries to sound composed and not overly excited* Thank you Mr. Edgeworth.
Edgeworth: It's... It's my pleasure. *He says, with a faint audible smile.* She'll have Klavier Gavin to pal around with. Someone her own age will be there.
Lana: That's good, that's one of my main reasons of calling anyways. *She hesitates* ...And I'm terribly sorry for this.
Edgeworth: Oh, Klavier Gavin is? And, why would you apologize?
Lana: Well... we haven't talked in awhile and I feel as if I'm rude all of a sudden asking you for something.
Edgeworth: Ah, well, I can understand. I heard from Ema that you're a professor now, and I know that it's a lot of work.
Edgeworth: Besides, *He injects his voice with lightness.* spending time with Ema is hardly an onerous task.
Lana: Well, I'm glad to hear that. *She laughs lightly* And yes, I became a professor. I just couldn't leave the law behind...
Edgeworth: It suits you, after all. *He sounds a bit more serious.* But please, you do have a tendency to get buried in your work. If you find the time, it would be lovely to catch up. No sense working ALL the time.
Lana: They say old habits die hard, right? I think it fits this situation quite nicely. A-Anyways, I don't want to keep you busy for too long.
Edgeworth: Ah, yes, I should be getting ready. *He's long since dry by now.* When would you like me to be there?
Lana: *She thinks for a minute, scratching her chin.* Hmm, how about you come over whenever you're ready? I'll just wait here. It's not like there's a specific time for me to show up.
Edgeworth: All right. I was just getting out of the shower, so I'll probably be over there in less than an hour.
Lana: That sounds good. I'll see you then?
Edgeworth: Yes, goodbye.
Lana: Good bye then. *She closes her cell phone*
Edgeworth: *Dropping his cell phone on the bed, he goes into the bathroom and continues getting ready for the party.*
