Decorations (Open )

(OOC - Set sometime after the away mission in Christmas-wobble-time.)

It was, perhaps, inappropriate to afford a section of the ship's power to the replication of decorations. Spock, however, was quite convinced that the representative nature of the replicated flora more than forgave the indulgence. Despite being convinced of this, it did occur to ( Read more... )

[[OOC - I don't know if Jim's back yet. I don't know if Spock is. It is hard to act.]]

(OOC - Ah yes, that does make it...troublesome.)

[[OOC - Screw it. Just don't ask him what happened later.]]

Jim wasn't really thinking about the holidays when he pressed the door chime. He couldn't help but be intrigued by any Spock, and her being female probably didn't hurt. But he hadn't seen her since the mission, and there was something in him that wanted a balance between professional and casual.

(OOC - Wobbly-time is made of retcons. We can ignore anything that doesn't pan out.)

Spock blinked as she turned from her notes. Two visitors in so short a time? Curious. Her back was already stiffer than she would have preferred, the chair had not been accurately adjusted. She would correct it later.

Spock rose from her seat and moved to the doorway, the motion alleviated the built in stress of idleness, and pressed on the door controls. The doors parted to reveal James Kirk and her eyebrows rose in tandem.

"Greetings, James," Spock prefaced and dropped her arms to her sides. "May I help you with anything?"

"Oh, no," Jim said, resolving privately to make sure she didn't automatically assume he needed something when he called on her. "Nothing like that. This is more of a social call. I wanted to thank you for a smooth first contact down there--the team was efficient, especially considering that they were drawn from three universes."

His eye traveled up to the ornament above the door and his expression turned slyly playful.

"Maybe I can help you with something."

Spock's comment about the efficiency of the team was quelled as James caught sight of the ornament. Her brows shifted mildly and Spock inclined her head.

"Indeed. If this is a social call," Spock prefaced, "Then I must insist that the traditional social obligations implied by this section of replicated flora be observed.

"If you are not discomfited by the notion," Spock concluded evenly.

There was something about overly formal flirting--at least from Spock--that was the opposite of a turn-off for Jim. That this wasn't his Spock, and a relative stranger, didn't bother him at all.

"I'm never discomfited. I admit that some formalities go somewhat against my free-spirited nature," Jim allowed. "But in this case, I think I can be prevailed upon."

He took a step closer, positioning himself under the threshold, and held out his hand.

"Fortunate," Spock replied and glanced down at the proffered hand. It was quite a liberty he was presuming and Spock regarded him dryly. The conceptual theme of the aforementioned ornament, however, was the willing and trustworthy exchange of otherwise inappropriate or unacceptable physical contact.

With a blink and a tilt of an eyebrow, Spock placed her hand in James's. The distance between them was quite meager, and Spock stepped in evenly. Without further delay, Spock turned her head an appropriate 1.5 degrees clockwise and pressed her lips against James's.

A liberty it may have been, but she had placed the mistletoe. She had insisted on the following of tradition. And he had offered her the option. Jim usually didn't ask before touching.

If she took it, well, that was her pleasure.

The kiss was his, and he endeavored to make it sensual and suggestive without actually taking further liberties. Then again, that might just have been Jim, unconsciously.

Spock normally held distaste for such engagement with beings of James's genotypical profile. However, tempered by the sentimentality of the seasonal tradition, she found it less than objectionable. Spock parted her lips slightly--the pliancy of Jim's own were not particularly outside of the variable set to which she was familiar. Strange, it was an anomaly. She noted it.

Jim was not one to refuse an invitation--he deepened the kiss slightly, gently, enjoying the combination of familiar and new that she presented--but he pulled away within moments with a decidedly Kirkian smile.

Spock drew a silent breath as she returned her posture and the alignment of her cranium to it's normative. The expression on James's face was notably familiar and Spock studied it silently for a full two seconds.

"I believe that was sufficient," Spock said and inclined her head as she stepped back. She extracted her hand from his carefully and motioned to the interior of her quarters. "Your indulgence is appreciated. Would you care to come in? Or does your personal schedule demand brevity?"

"I'd love to. Thanks." Jim stepped in, passing Spock. "You seem to have embraced the spirit of the season." He smirked. "At least part of it. You know, if it should ever prove insufficient, I won't require a vegetative excuse."

Spock stepped away from her door as it closed and arched a brow at James.

"Noted," Spock commented dryly and her brow lilted. "I am quite accustomed to this particular tradition and further...decorative installments seemed unnecessary."

Spock moved from the doorway as she spoke. "I am infinitely pleased with the ease of contact we experienced. Though the majority of the thanks for this should fall upon the individuals.

"Outstanding officers, despite the occasional hindrance of universal displacement." Spock concluded placidly.
