A chairde ~~
HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
This is obligatory, of course, both because I am Irish (yeah midlanders! Shout out to people from poor neglected Co. Westmeath!) and because it is my adopted country.
So today we celebrate a country the size of the state of Indiana which has produced great things: Guinness, Jamesons, James Joyce, Samuel Beckett, Dustin the Turkey, an unfair monopoly of the term "Celtic," 800 years of war and strife, Bono (and his leather pants), a craze of leprechauns and shamrocks, Michael Collins, Damien Rice...me! (eventually).
So, obligatory lyrics:
Oh Erin gra mo chrói, you're the dear old land to me
You're the fairest that my eyes have ever seen
And if ever I go home, it's from you I never will roam
You're my own native land so far away
With the turf fire burning bright on a cold dark winter's night
And the snow flakes falling gently to the ground
When Saint Patrick's Day has come, my thoughts will carry me home
To that dear little isle so far away.
I miss Ireland so much I can't even tell you.
So, for you all - Sláinte agus saol agat, páiste gach bliadhan agat agus bás in Éirinn!
