I read up on some quotes and such to get back into the rhythm of Bronte's style. In looking at some of it it seemed too happy happy for me...because you would think that, being the kind of man Rochester is, he would have a lot of emotional baggage to take a long with him, despite Jane's trying to convince me to the contrary.
I love writing pastiche (fic? I think "pastiche" is academia's way of writing fic, I think) for this period because that was a time when writer's truly loved and had an appreciation for words. All those $5 words that you can't trot out in normal conversation you can use there. <3 I encourage you to practice lots and study stylistics of the old pros (I am more partial to Austen than to Bronte, in that regard...Frances Burney is also lovely...if you want truly warped stylistics and warped style in general, check out The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy, Gentleman by Laurence Sterne....there are probably others, if you want). Read widely is the best advice I could give you - and I think you already take that from the little I know of you. ^_^
Feel free to make more strange requests - you keep me on my toes. :)
