We're Havin' a Heat Wave!

I haven't updated in a while. It makes me sad.

So, I finished my cosplay costume....only to get sick (high fever and high temperatures do not mix well, I'm afraid) and not be able to wear it at AX. But it turned out well...the skirt pattern wasn't all that I had hoped and there is one seam missing from the jacket (that most likely I'll be the only one to notice), but other than that I am very much satisfied. I'm hoping to make my little brother do a cosplay photoshoot for me...

...or I'll go to Comic Con for a day or two...it is awfully expensive...but perhaps.

Well, after that I left for Canada...I got mildly drunk and apparently started speaking in a bad British accent...then went on cruise to Alaska.

I liked the ports. I honestly think I could live on the 2 streets and among the population of 841 of Skagway. And there was a caboose off the White Pass railway that you could rent for $40 a night...any takers?

Alaska is profoundly rough and has a lovely sort of silence that hangs over it. Despite the modern age, it still is, by all means, a frontier. And I for one, sincerely hope it stays that way. The world needs to retain its wild places.

Cruises still bug me for ethical reasons (if you would like a long dissertation as to why, ask and you will recieve a long rant. Be be warned, you will get a rant) and this particular one actually exacerbated them with a couple of choice facts I learned. Oh, and my brothers both got that Norwalk virus we've all heard so much about. Lovely.

And now I am back from 52 degree weather to 104 degree. *dies*

Also...a random ass question. What does the term "fandom" actually constitute...is it simply a catch-all internet term to signify a group of fans of a particular thing? Or is it meant for more modern things? A friend suggested to me that being a Mozart fangirl was particularly egregious and disturbing...and for that measure...would there be a Keats fandom or a Shakespeare fandom...or are these completely above such a thing as fandom...meaning fandom is actually a term that implies a kind of value judgment on the subject matter....

Wow. Too nerdy!

Btw, greywing...There are Jane Austen murder mysteries written in her style...they are actually kind of amusing. If you're at all interested in exploring them the first one is called Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor by Stephanie Barron. She actually does a very nice job of integrating not only autobiographical information, but responding to the dominate criticisms of her writing.

Okay, I will be done now!
