OMG DOCTOR WHO.

I need to watch it more to be coherent. I was flailing too much to process.

Someone flail with me. If there is flailing there will be spoilers.

But I am pleased. Quite pleased.

doctor who, incoherent fangirling

IT IS ABOUT BLOODY TIME!/end Britishness.

I'm not 9's biggest fan (didn't have an emotional connection with him), but 10 is very worth it. Although, now that you're watching 11, it is quite a different dynamic and feel (10 has a lot of angsty depth to his character and a lot of survivor's guilt, 11, by contrast, is very light hearted and Moffat views Doctor Who as a kind of fairy tale).

I WAS GLUED TO MY TV LIKE A SMALL CHILD AND PHYSICALLY FLAILING. HOW COULD THEY DO THAT IN THE FIRST 10 MINUTES???? SO WRONG. FIX IT! FIX IT RIGHT NOW! AND ALIENS ARE TRULY CREEPY. AND THEY KNOW PEOPLE'S NAMES. I HAVE A WEIRD NAME PHOBIA.

I HAVE LOVED RIVER FROM HER FIRST EPISODE AND I HAD NO IDEA THAT SHE WAS HATED BECAUSE USUALLY MY FANDOM OPINIONS ARE VERY UNPOPULAR AND I DON'T CARE. (If anything, you need to go watch "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" in Series 4, because then you will understand something that I will not spoil it. People's opinions for not liking her usually range from her being crammed down the viewer's throats in a "You much love me way!", which I never felt because she is like female!Doctor. In some theories she is female Doctor which makes what is going down now all sorts of WTF. My other thought is that a gendered double standard is in place and she does not act like a companion nor a conventional female usually acts. Also, she is very alien and, like the Doctor, who is very familiar to his audience, you have to accept her on trust and trust that all will be revealed. That is asking more of audiences than usual, rather boldly. We rankle under such demands from our television programs. This is a very long aside.)

IS IT NEXT WEEK YET????

haha i know i have taken forever but i think i finally caved because the new cast seemed like loads of fun. i've heard that nine + ten are much more dark. i've seen a few of nine and he is alright so far, just a bit slow, but i think i will love ten. also, i just can't wait to get to donna! she has been my favourite companion for some reason and i've seen all of two of her episodes. presently, i am getting very attached to eleven and i blame MATT SMITH'S STUPID EXPRESSIVE FACE AND HIS RIDICULOUS LIMBS AND HIS DEMEANOR and how he manages to make this frighteningly smooth transition from peter pan on speed to ancient time lord who is incredibly lonely and incredibly angry and could bat his lash and burn you to pieces. it's incredible. /fangirling matt smith forever.

BUT THE NEW EPISODE. I WAS FREAKING OUT OKAY. HOW DO YOU KILL/BURN/BRING THE GUY BACK IN THE FIRST TEN MINUTES? HOW? and i have to hand it to them for making it work too because most other shows i'd be pulling out my hair. ugh i do hope they fix it because i love this cast so much and they are tiny and adorable and don't need all this CREEPY ANGUISH.

i've already spoiled myself for river's episode(s) with ten though i will watch them properly anyway (and god, it makes her INFINITELY MORE TRAGIC D: D: D:) and i agree with what you've said since that's pretty much been my theory re: why she's not very popular. i guess fandom is still very big on the gender double standard plus her being very cryptic all the time probably doesn't help. i kind of LOVE that she is the first person we've seen who keeps the doctor on his toes where from my understanding he has pretty much always been the authority on board and all the girls have been following his lead, etc, etc. it makes their dynamic all the more intriguing and believable to me. in sum, I LOVE RIVER SONG THE END.

(as an aside: omg your icon ;_; i bawled all over the van gogh episode. how gorgeous was that!?)

CAN YOU TELL I AM FLAILY?

The first ten minutes are a narrative coup d'etat. I'm genre savvy to the point where I'm not usually surprised, but I was like :0!!!!! for the whole episode. I turned to my friend who was over here watching it with me and was like "You can't just kill the main character in the first 10 minutes! That's just not done!" But, oh what a ride! Narrative thrill ride, whoooo hoooo!

I also love 11, unabashedly. He walks like a drunken giraffe The Moff's description, not mine) and is such a subtle actor. The part where he refuses to go anywhere is filled with such powerfully silent menace that it is chilling. And the cast is so well balanced. And I love RIver...I'm in stories for the ride, and I'm happy if you take me on a good journey. I'm not disappointed yet.

And I LOVE the Van Gogh episode. I might actually show it to my classes if I have an extra day sometime just because I can. So there.

I AM FLAILY TOO! WE SHALL FLAIL TOGETHER LIKE...SEAWEED IN A CURRENT!/WORST SIMILE EVER!
