Velodrom pics

We were at the Velodrom the other day, and in between I had time to take some pictures.

The Velodrom was opened in 1997 when Berlin applied for Olympic Games 2000.
From above it looks like an UFO just landed in the green countryside. (Google pic)

It is surrounded by a wall, witch has a flowery meadow on the inside and a huge flight of stairs outside. Walking along Landsberger Allee you wouldn't see anything of the building at all. The air was shimmering on the roof that day. Unfortunately the effect got lost in the pic.

The northern doors. Strongly recommended as campground in December. LOL!

The driveway for trucks and staff *hums famous Sinatra song*

View from the upper gallery. They're quite proud of the wooden cycle racetrack (Original Siberian Spruce). The Berlin Six Days take place here every year.

On a less positive note, they are a bit weak in terms of power supply. Sure, that doesn't really matter for a cycle race. However, if you want to hold an event with extensive power consumption like, say, a concert of a certain band, it's "Better bring your own power producer if you don't want to be in the dark. Literally!"
