Whoop, I had a mega-reply typed up a few days ago and lj ate it, then I just forgot to come back to it. My bad.
Anyway. Basically all of what you said, lol :D. Oh, man, there is so much h/c and also SO MUCH Pike&Kirk gen to be written in between 2009 and STID, I am just waiting for someone to post on the kink meme or AO3. asdlksaf;lkjsdf though - I mean, Kirk actually died. That is just so. I mean. Argh. I really don't have the time to be writing a whole lot right now (and I still owe ivory_silk a Trek fic from ages ago that has to be my first priority), but I really want to do something with it.
And yeah, I'd really love to see more conversation on Starfleet's militarization in JJ's verse. I mean, there's an in-verse explanation with Nero and the Klingons and whatnot I guess, but it felt like there were so many things in this one where Abrams/the writers were trying to pander to their idea of Trek's fanbase (because if there is one thing that Tumblr has conclusively proven, it's that scifi fans are all straight young dudes who like gratuitous boob shots) that it came off less - like, IDK, I really liked it overall, but there were definitely bits that left a bad taste in my mouth. So to speak. Uh, but I lost my train of thought there, because the military/drones/extrajudicial killings aspect of it wasn't one of those things - that was really interesting and unexpected, and made the movie feel a bit to me like one of the TOS morality play eps, in a really good way. IDK. I saw it again last night and I liked it even better than before, but I'm definitely going to catch it a couple more times before it goes out of theaters.
And, heh, my weekend suddenly got superbusy, but I'll try to knock off a drabble or two - seriously, this is like the goldmine of h/c opportunities. I mean, everyone gets emotionally *and* physically messed up. I'm so excited for some more time to pass so some longer fics'll start popping up on AO3.
Pike's death made me SO UNHAPPY, ugh. I mean at least it wasn't a woman getting fridged but it was still very clearly fridging him in order to get Kirk motivated for the movie and that, I have to say, is one of my least favorite tropes. But yes, the one thing I liked was the history they so clearly had together between XI and ID, and that it was clearly not the first time Pike had gone to bat for Kirk. (And I have to admit, I also like the fact that they did take the Enterprise away from Kirk for that stunt-- I feel like getting the ship so young can't have been good for his ego. Unfortunately, any good it may have done him was immediately overshadowed by the rest of the movie, sigh.)
-_-; Yes. The gratuitous boob shots. At the time it didn't bother me so much, but on reflection...
