Come on. Grow up. Why does everyone always act as if this is some big secret that just got uncovered? "Oh my god! A commentary show on Fox News arranged clips in a way to make Obama seem like more of a hyper leftist than he already does! OOOH THE AUDACITY!", "Stop the presses everybody! One of the business shows on MSNBC on saturday just said something that was in favor of the Obama Administration!", or how about this. "I was quoted out of context". Here's why quotes out of context occur. Are you ready for this? It's going to be a doozy.
It's not because news companies have Dr Claw from Inspector Gadget sitting in his chair pulling all the strings. There isn't someone going,.. "Hm.. How can we lie to people for fun? I know! Let's take things out of context knowingly and purposefully." Biases occur in media because the Family Guy manatees aren't the ones reporting news or commenting on them. It happens because people have preconceived notions. It's because people have sets of beliefs that influence how they think and opine.
If someone thought I was going around stealing wigs they're going to find ways to show me up as a wig stealer. Telling people that one source has a tendency to take things out of context does not make anyone revaluate themselves and think, "My beliefs = my source = lies = me being wrong = you being right = me needing to think more like you and trusting you since you showed me the errors of my ways = not ever going to buy it when my previous side makes accusations of you lying/taking out of context". All this is does is breed cynicism and then cause apathy. Want proof?
After writing this I have just discovered how moot my point is because I wanted to close this with something like, you're an asshole if you're just going to accept everything that's told to you. If you don't think for yourself and see another point of view to challenge information you might believe, then really you shouldn't be paying attention to any news source. It's moot because in order for you to see another point of view, you have to read some assholes article where he whines about things being taken out of context. So, screw all what I just said and just don't be an asshole and don't act shocked when competing thought makes a claim of the other taking things out of context and being biased. Also, if you have to acknowledge that certain sources are false or misleading because of whats being taken out of context or the bias supposedly expressed in a supposed context, don't act like you or another source is altruistic and pure.
