Aang saw the scar and froze. Zuko was the one who saved him? Zuko, the guy who chased him halfway across the world? How could he justify saving someone like that?
But how could he not?
Forget being the Avatar, leaving Zuko behind would go against everything he had learned from the monks.
As Aang reached for Zuko, arrows rained down, burying deep into the ground between them. A glance showed the gates to the fort open again with soldiers flooding towards them, and with the archers atop the walls taking aim again.
No time, no choice. Aang had to run.

Zuko didn’t know how long Zhao had kept him here. The cell had no windows, and while they didn’t let him starve they did not always bring him food regularly.
The only real routine was Zhao’s frequent visits when he would taunt Zuko, never actually striking him, he was still a Prince. At least for now.
He was pulled out of his misery when an explosion shook the fort followed by the alarms sounding. The sounds grew closer and closer, until finally the door to his cell burst open to reveal the Avatar fighting off soldiers.
As Uncle Iroh stepped into the room.
“Uncle? How did you...?”
“The Avatar came to me, he was distraught that he failed to save you.” Iroh finished undoing the shackles, “Come Nephew, I’ll explain the rest later.”
