Kevin Kelly points the way ahead. Again. Essentially, you combine a 3-D motion capture system with a rapid prototyper. This enables you to make full size, three dimensional 'sketches', which you can then pick up and noodle around with.
OK, it's crude, and I can't imagine that it's cheap, but this kind of design ability is jawdropping. Any yo-yo with this system can call themselves a furniture designer and have product to back them back up. People like me, with training and skill, are likely to get lost in the maelstrom... I feel like a carriage maker looking at a Model-T! "Oh crap, there goes my entire industry!"
OTOH, products and procedures like this will (I believe) enhance rather than damage the desire for *quality* goods, and as a producer of said quality goods, this could actually help. And, let's face it, it's just damn cool!
