Sort of BAWWW ahead?

There's nothing more discouraging than going through a long list of roleplays that are currently open on LJ. I just... Don't understand. How can one roleplay work, and another with an amazing, original plot idea just... Not work? It's difficult to tell what will make one roleplay successful, while another fails before it ( Read more... )

Oh! I can help with this one!

1) I like newer games, it makes me feel like I'm involved with getting things off the ground and that I haven't missed much. When I join a game that's been there forever I feel out of the loop and lost, people already have their own way of going about things and I feel like I'm intruding, so newer games that show promise are a definite plus to me.

2) When I look at a game I like simplicity. I don't need a billion stock images to think that you're game is interesting. Some tables, simple HTML, and a GOOD plot is what I like. The thing is, some games have character oriented plot and while that's all fine and well I like having some plot that's in the game so I feel like it won't die off. That people will have something to fall back on after the initial new-game-high. I like groups with 30+ characters, and even if a game doesn't have that many characters if they characters are active it makes up for it.

3) I like WRITING, it's one of the reasons I got into RPing in the first place. I like sceneing more than IC aim chats. I like comment spamming IC too, but I just really dislike when everything's about AIM or commenting and no one actually writes things out. I don't mind threading over AIM but I like having a community where logs go, even if people just post them after they complete them on AIM. It lets me know exactly what's going on with everyone in the game and the characters.

4) I prefer insanejournal over livejournal, if I'm being honest~ I feel like there's so many more people over there and while there is slash there's het, too, so people can find whatever game their want that fits their interests. I like more icons, better usernames, and friend-all buttons. *shrugs* Just a preference, I think things are a bit more active there if your game gets off the ground.

5) Applications that are easier discourage me. Despite the fact that people are lazy it makes me feel like the mods A) don't want to read it, B) don't have expectations for the people applying. I'm not talking epic, even though I've gotten used to writing 8K bios on my characters, but just to have two paragraphs for personality and two paragraphs for history, and basic info at the very least. That's like, what, 15+ sentences?

6) The best thing to do IMO, is to find a group of dedicated players, and they'll bring their friends and help keep the game going as the plot thins or when other people are busy. Just make sure that as a mod you make the players feel like their input is important, but also to make sure you can be the mod when you need to be. Let them give suggestions but when it comes to it, YOU'RE the mod, it's never fun when someone tries to walk all over the mod.

7)...LOL IDK WHAT ELSE.

Oh, wow! This is awesome that you typed all of this up. ♥ It really gives me some good insight as to what other roleplayers may feel, as I can definitely agree with you on a lot of those points. Especially number one. Nothing better than joining a game and feeling so awkward to jump into posts where everyone seems to know each other and your character's just like "...hi."

As for number two, I know what you mean. I usually try and go for the simple, but elegant look when it comes to setting up a game. I put just enough in the userinfo that it makes people want to read more and know about the place. And as for plot? Yeah, that's a definite big thing. The game I'm coming up with will have a lot of little events to make up for when there aren't bigger, roleplay-wide ones. There will always be something to do or something characters can talk about, to keep people from getting bored when they have to resort to the same old same old.

There will definitely be a log community, as I do love writing things out. ♥ It's the writer in me that I really want to express more. The events that I mentioned above will be big on writing and testing out people's abilities. I think it will be fun.

My idea of an easy app, though, is like... Only a few questions. I definitely expect people to flesh out the thing to its fullest, though. When I ask for a background, I want at the very least a few, very well-developed paragraphs. Anything less and I :[.

We'll definitely see how things go and if I can do anything with this.

Thank you again for your input. ♥
