I drive a cavalier (2004, i think), car payment is 195/mo. Insurance is pretty cheap too. Its fine and remarkably handled well in the snow. Back seat is tiny though. The cobalt is much better in that respect (I've ridden in one several times, us grad students can't afford much!).

I also drive a 1988 dodge ram 1500 when i'm back in cleveland. It sucks in the snow (rwd), so that's your call, but it's still trucking at over 150k miles.

Kevin has a honda civic hybrid. I think the payment is $500ish a month, the hybrid package adds so much to that payment. I like it and he does too. If you drive a lot in the city, it's probably worth it (45ish mpg), but it's pretty much the same on the highway, so if that's all you drive, it isn't really worth it.

My sister and her husband have a new chevy trailblazer. They suck the gas real bad, but I think their payment is around $300, because Chevy can't sell enough of them. They even have the dvd player/tv one. I think it's worth it, since they have a new baby and have to cart a lot of shit around now. But for one person, not so much.
