epiphany

I managed to keep a food journal for almost three weeks, which is almost three weeks more than I thought I could.  And I haven't missed a training session yet; I'm sure that will come as a surprise to those of you who are acquainted with my distaste for mornings and waking up.  I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself, and I feel good about how things are going on that front.  Hanging out or going out is still a struggle for me; I usually have to burn my weekly cheat day if there's a social gathering, but when I'm on my own I do pretty good.

I sent my mom a box of freebies that I've picked up at conferences...pads of paper, pens, etc.  She called me to tell me how delighted she was.  It was better than if I had actually spent money on stuff.  She couldn't believe the size of the free sea salt and told me that ever since my dad tried it when they visited me, he refuses to use any other salt.  They're excited to use the gift certificates I got them to try The Melting Pot (ok, so those weren't free), and I'm excited for them to go.  I think it'll be the fanciest non-Chinese restaurant they'll go to for a while.

I'm trying to swing a jaunt to Vegas in a couple of weeks.  Prices are so low and it's tempting...even though honestly with the pools closed I have no clue what I'd do there for three days.  And if I go to Vegas, I'd feel bad for not making an effort to show up at the family Chinese New Year dinner the week after that.  Oh well, I guess it's good to have options at least.  And both of those places are warmer than here.

Earlier today, the head DBA stopped by my office to ask me a question that didn't really need to be asked.  You know, the kind you answer with a bewildered "Uh...yeah?  And...?"  Anyway, in the middle of clarifying my answer so we both understood that I didn't think there was an issue in the first place, he let one rip.  Actually, he let three rip, but they were kind of linked.  It was LOUD.  He gave no indication that he was aware of what his ass was doing, though.

Hurray for iTunes cutting prices and junking their stupid DRM.  Now if they'd just scrap that stupid Bonjour program that attempts to take over my computer every time it sneaks on.
