I used to put out chocolate-covered mint patties in my candy dish, and they were popular. A Costco tub costs around $10, and they last at least a month. In fact, the last one lasted so long that by the end they were kinda hard. A year ago I tried switching to kisses, but people seemed to prefer the mints. Last month I decided to try a bag of Hersheys Nuggets. I'm on my third bag now; people DEVOUR them. My boss just came in and ate, like, four. I fear that there will be a mutiny if I try to switch back to the more economical mints.
Yesterday I shaved, and I shaved again today. I don't remember the last time I shaved on consecutive days. Like, even in college it was a rarity; I'd stretch the Dress/Grooming Code as far as it would go and shave maybe every other day. I only got in trouble a couple of times for stubble...I look back and wonder WHY it's such a big thing. I understand the desire to project the clean-cut image, but why doesn't BYU just outlaw, say, disparaging remarks and holier-than-thou pretension? I mean, isn't that equally a step on the path to a more Christ-like life? "I'm sorry, but I can't check this book out for you today. You'll have to come back tomorrow when you aren't gossiping about the fat girl at the end of the line who you think wants to eat your gym bag."
I'm not sure how long I can keep this shaving every day thing up; it adds significant time in the morning. I'm used to about a 10 min. span between rolling out of bed and running out the door if I'm in a hurry (and I usually am). Still, a group of HR employees commented on my haircut and shave today, and it made me perk up. i can has pretty sumtiezm?
My parents arrive on Thursday, and then the yard work will commence. My dad is bringing a chainsaw and a tiller and heaven knows what other tools. He's so excited. I hate to ruin his fun, but we're honestly not as ambitious about the yard as he is. I mean, all we really need to do to make the yard look 100% better is pick up the poop and mow the lawn. Of course, 100% better still wouldn't put it in the "well-groomed" category, but 100% is a nice number all the same.
I just saw that The Breeders are coming at the end of the month. I never really got into Pod, but I love all of Last Splash. Title TK was meh, and I'm worried that their new album will be similarly meh. Still, it's rare that a non-local band that I give a hoot about comes close to Salt Lake.
