I must admit, this 'flashback' with Mike's comments works on me. It keeps the inevitable end on the back of the mind, watching every domino fall knowing it'll end with his death. It's the "what if I did this instead of that" with the knowledge that every 'if' will never change the painful result, slowly bringing the sadness as well as watching Abby crying. (yeah, I was spoiled by the teaser of an icon post.)

Oh Mike. Gibbs is losing his…well, his Gibbs. It's like if Tony was watching Gibbs dying. It hurt.
There's something there, a lot of parallels/links, maybe planed, maybe not. What if Mike was seriously ill and wanted to go fighting, just like Jenny? It goes well with their history.
Gibbs' student (who was promoted above him) met Gibbs' teacher and he didn't like her. He's the last to see her alive, because she called him, because Gibbs trust him. She wanted to go fighting instead of by the sickness, and he knew it.
He kept the files of something she was linked with, stole them when Vance took her place as Director, placed there by SECNAV to end a very, very old case.
Which happened to be Vance's first case, which was a case Jenny failed to end, which led to her death, that Mike helped finished by avenging her, plus the files Mike just gave to Gibbs.
I may miss more common points, but just these are already interesting.
…I don't understand why Ziva is this sad. I didn't think she was so close of him.
Oh, it's a combination, a last straw kind of thing.
Awwwwwww! And *cries* It's probably the scene Pauley was talking about, crying easily because her cat was dying.
