I saw the Omen. At 10:15 pm. I've backdated this entry, so it falls on the day 06/06/06. It was 2 hours of my life I will never get back. I totally could predict the plot. If you've seen the trailer, you've seen basically every scene in the movie.
It probably comes as a weird coincidence that i've been feeling more religious lately. After seeing this movie, it just kind of makes me think that everyone's got everything wrong. Religion is something to help and support people, it's not meant to be the basis of a horror story. Granted, the fight between Good and Evil always goes on, but not as extreme as in the movies. We fight a war within ourselves. It's nice to think that at the end of our lives, we stand before some higher authority and justify our existence on Earth. What would I say if I was standing there? Would I feel like I've lived a just and pious life? I've done things in my life I regret, I think we all have. How would God react to my life? I've certainly never done anything overtly bad. I've never killed anyone, cheated on people that I loved, coveted my neighbor's wife, or other bad things. I haven't gone to church, I've had premarital sex(and lots of other things!), I've lied. Sure I'd ask for forgiveness for all these things, but I mean how are we as humans expected to live a perfect life? Wouldn't it be better to judge us on the merits of our life as a whole, or am I to be condemned to eternal damnation for giving in to sexual temptation?(Granted, I never actually went through with the act completely, but that's another story.)
It's a fundamental theological question of which I have been thinking a lot. What's the point of being pious when it directly conflicts with our nature as human beings. We all make mistakes. We cannot be perfect. We try our best, but in the end, what if it's not good enough?
These kinds of things keep me up at night.
