"The gifts we treasure most over the years are often small and simple. In easy times and in tough times, what seems to matter most is the way we show those nearest to us that we've been listening to their needs, to their joys, and to their challenges."
~Mr. Rogers
I really believe this is true. Thinking back over the many presents I have recieved over the years the ones that TRULY matter to me had nothing to do with holidays.
When I was in highschool my buddy Matt gave me a wax hand holding a rose because he thought I deserved to get flowers and never did. He said he wanted me to always have a reminder of how wonderful I was. That flower was one of my most cherished posessions. YEARS later it broke when I was moving and I cried. I hadn't talked to Matt in a long time but for some reason that flower breaking broke my heart.
Another cherished gift came in the form of a book wrapped in plain brown paper. I showed up at home after a birthday party and it was sitting there waiting for me. It looked so simple. I had no idea that by giving me an old copy of Steppenwolf Colin was really opening himself up to me.
Over the years I have been blessed with many good gifts but the best ones are always the unexpected ones. When people surprise you out of the blue its amazing. Sometimes the best gift is someone sharing their time with you even though they are busy.
The BEST present I have gotten lately was Reeses PB cups, a monkey card and support when I was going through a stressful time. Chocolate can solve the problems of the world.
Anyway- I'm rambling now and need to continue working on my disaster of a room. More later.
