The worst is over, but letting go is hard to do...

November 21, 2003- the day that Keysha Lady-Shally Carpenter was laid to rest. Since I received her as a gift for my third birthday, there is hardly a time that I can remember not having her. She was a beautiful dog, and I was very close to her. Although she managed to escape death more times than I can count on my right hand (heat stroke, almost downing, snake bite, her uterus falling out...and so much more), this time she was not so fortunate. She was old, and simply lost the will to fight. I held her as the doctor administered the fatal shot, and as she took her last breath. You can never appreciate the value of life until you feel it slip from someone so quickly. She died peacefully, and that's more than we could have asked for. We were all there together to say our last goodbyes; even Kody. Now we are left with nothing but memories of what a sweet dog, and great pet she was. I know that she is in a better place, and free of pain, but I miss her already. She was with me longer than either of my sisters, and I loved her very much.
