Good day, everyone.
[He adjusts his monocle as he looks into the screen, and then he seems to think for a moment, looking down at what must be notes.]
Mr. Hakkai and I were interested to do a bit of a survey of the residents of Somarium, so as to collect data that could prove to be useful in reaching some hopefully enlightening conclusions about this

[ Big explanations, he loves them. Yes, Carl is a know-it-all child, and you are going to certainly get a lot to take in. ] Well, if I'm remembering my history lessons correctly, around 2099 is when the Black Beast showed up, in my world. No one knows where it came from, but nothing could stop it that humanity could make. Back then technology was really primitive still, so we only had nuclear weapons, and they had no effect for ten years. But since the monster coated everything in a mist called Seithr, a witch named Nine found out that we could harness and with time, use it for magus.
She was one of the Six Heroes who defeated the Black Beast. They taught humanity how to combine technology with magic, and about the seithr. It can be kind of dangerous for humans to be over-exposed to it, since it's highly poisonous in concentrations, but if you use it right, you can do just about anything with it. That time was called the Dark War.
[ He looks pleased with his explanation. Sufficient? He thinks so. But that's just the backstory, really. ]

Fascinating. It is quite interesting that there are parallels, in parts, between your world and mind.
But technology and magic are combined in your world? It sounds to me as though magic came after technology in terms of development, is that so?

[ And he loves giving them. Perhaps too much. ] After the war, though, the Heroes disappeared... no one's really sure why, but the Novus Orbis Librarium Armagus, or the Librarium or NOL for short, was put in place to help keep track of armagus and rebuild. There was another war, though, that made the NOL put really strict laws on armagus use in place.
I'm a vigilante, though, so I have their basic authority to use armagus. We capture criminals wanted by the Librarium and turn them in for rewards. I'm also pretty good at handling seithr, so I don't have any problem with using it to control automatons.

Seithr...can be handled? Would you mind explaining how it functions?

[ He considers it. ] It's a kind of fog. It was explained to me once that too much seithr causes dependency and makes the body break down over prolonged exposure, so I guess it could also be as bad as any drug on a human, except it's positive benefits outweigh the risks.
I'm not entirely sure how it works... but it always replenishes after awhile. It doesn't disappear, so it can be reused easily for armagus and individual spells, which we call an Ars. Some people have better resistances with seithr, I think, which means we can handle more of it at once... but there's a race that's totally immune to it's bad effects, too--the Kaka clan.

[ But now that he considers it, was there even seithr here? Curiouser and curious. He looks off-screen to someone. A nod. ] Ah... mh-hm. Yeah, you're probably right about that, I don't think there's any seithr here. If there is, I haven't seen it.
... As far as our ability with armagus goes, though, my sister and I have really good control over it. I use it to help control my automatons, too. But that's about it.
[ You don't need to know he can produce giant gears that kill people. C: ]

Are you able to use your abilities here without seithr?

[ And he hasn't exactly been over doing it or feeling too sick, he's just injured. So. ]

[He's off rambling, now, whoops.]

Wow, I don't understand this at all, Sis...
[ Time to interject. ] ... Um, it might be possible that since we're all asleep, we're just drawing out power from our worlds while we're here...?
Reply
Oh...! That is certainly a thought. However, I have heard that we are not actually asleep, but are rather another, separated being of ourselves, such as a parallel life, strangely enough. For I have heard that our lives continue as they were before, with the simple added effect that we are also here in this world.

But... that can't be possible, can it? There being two of someone? There should only be one of us, right? I was told this place was just a dream world. Doesn't that mean you should be asleep in reality?
Sis, I don't get it...

However if it is a dream world, it could merely be a world composed of dreams, or even simply a misnomer. It is, after all, simply a name.

[ ... Danny seemed to think that might be it (little does he know he just fell asleep afterwards, he accidentally forgot about that), so could it be? ] Um... what do you know about teleporting people? That's a kind of magic, right? I mean... I can do that with my sister, but only from a little distance... and only if I concentrate really hard.
My sister told me this woman was really dangerous. She even turned her off. I'm not sure how, though...

Teleportation...? Hm. In my own world, it is a powerful sort of magic requiring a great deal of strength, if planning to teleport anyone besides oneself. The teleportation of oneself is not an altogether too complicated process, however, if one has a destination in mind.
But...I am rather certain that we all arrived her through sleep or unconsciousness. If you truly were teleported here, why, that could possibly offer a way out!
