Mom: Julie, will you go to church with your dad and I tomorrow at 11am?
Julie: (after a moment of trying to get over the initial shock of the question) Mom, I think that by asking me that you are disrespecting my beliefs
Mom: but it would really mean a lot to your dad and the people at the church would like to see you. They're always asking about you
Julie: I don't like organized religion (note: this is my standard way of side-stepping the religion issue). I'd prefer to be educated
Mom: You're getting too educated on the subject. You're starting to get off the beaten path
Julie: I don't want to be on the beaten path when it comes to religion. It's an hour of my life I could be doing something else
Mom: Well God gave you an entire life. Did you ever think about that?
UGH! a) I need to move and b) there is no way I am going to go to church tomorrow. God was created by humans to answer the unexplainable.
I try to be nice to people because I feel it's the right thing to do, not because I am living in fear of a vengeful and violent god
