I'm not bragging just contemplating...Today while leaving the grocery store a man started to beg me for food I think (as apposed to money). I don't actually know what he started to say because but I immediately grabbed a baguette from my grocery sack to give him. This was somewhat odd as I am usually pretty calloused and selfish (hey I can admit it--though I'm not proud of it) and just say, "no" or that I don't have money. Well he didn't even reach for it. He said, "No ma'am my wife's diabetic." I glanced at my grocery sack knowing there wouldn't be anything else to give (but still hoping). I accepted in my mind that there really wasn't anything and I asked what she could eat. I had thought I'd just run back in and buy something but he suggested "Those fish sandwiches at McDonald's". Just like that I promised I'd return, not even a hint of hesitation. How strange it was for me. I bought sandwiches and salads and returned. The gentleman was speaking with a man who looked as though he'd just gotten off work. His top button undone as if he'd removed a tie. The 'beggar' said, "God bless you, ma'am" and the other man beamed and said something about how God was blessing me right then, "You know that right?" I couldn't help but smile. It warmed me so.

Here's the even funnier part...I went to the Post Office to mail off my dad's b-day package. As I was leaving I heard a loud voice inside. I glanced inside half-way expecting an unmedicated mental patient on a rampage. What I did see was a run-down, but kindly man leaving. Though limping, he wore a huge smile as he shouted to a PO worker he'd see them tomorrow. I couldn't help but smile myself. I finished my transaction and started to leave. The man was returning from his car with a huge bunch of purple, dutch irises. Still smiling, he handed me half and told me to take them home. I thanked him. He said he'd send me the bill and laughed. I bleated out an awkward guffaw, caught off guard by the joke. The feeling I got from the men at the grocery store had been more then enough blessing and here I was getting flowers besides, wow. I'm so unworthy.
