Tales from the exciting life of SUPERTEACHER! This is snot for light weights!

Our difficult charge for the summer missed school yesterday because she was sick. She came today and proceeded to wipe nasal discharge on her sleeves, our sleeves, you name it. She must have been exhausted because she really didn't put up much of a fight today. After she did a little work we were giving her some free time and she just couldn't stop wiping her nose. Using one kleenex at a time--but not blowing. For some reason this is sort of typical of non communicative kids. She's the third I've met that didn't know how to blow her nose, just wipe. I thought I'd teach her. Hey it's worth a shot. I made her feel me blowing from my nose and convinced her to try. You should have heard us cheer when she produced giant snot bubbles. She hasn't figured out that it should only happen with the kleenex over her nose but it should reduce the wiping by at least one half! I'll teach her that next, if I must. We sent her home early today. Wow we take for granted those who know how to do this. It is impossible to keep wiping constantly.

Stressing about life in general. I need to get out of the snotty job so that I can have time to get into my classroom and pack for my move. Last night we played a tremendous game of softball but lost (sort of). Our team disagreed with 3 calls but conceded a few and lost another to a coin toss. Did I mention we've lost all season and were actually winning before this happened? This was the only game that our umpires didn't show too! One might think we were just sore losers because we were so close--but would sore losers politely concede 3 times. Still bitter but we had a lot of fun most of the game. I am truly enjoying the physical activity and especially the socialization (whether we win or lose we always hit DQ!). Our team is really light hearted and everyone had a decent attitude last night. I think it's a true testament of our character that we avoided conflict.
