Yeah, the background changes quite a bit in general - the signs, the newspaper, the price for onions, the flowers and so on; everything looks much neater, too, there's less dirt, the cracks in the pavement slabs are gone, houses have been repainted, and so on.
And yeah, they're all real people: Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris and the (now late) Christopher Hitchens. They're all pretty well-known, outspoken atheists, too.
As for Hitchens himself, he's the author of "God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything", among other things; quite a good read. And although he was more right-wing in his political views, all in all, he spoke out against the use of torture in the form of waterboarding, and indeed allowed himself to be subjected to it and get an idea what it really felt like.

Can't say I actually knew anything about him... though I figured they were based on actual people.
