My friends all tell me they like my pets,
and though they do as a rule,
I find that no one has wanted yet
My lizard I call O'Toole.
O'Toole is gentle and good as gold
and perfectly nice to touch
but when I give him to kids to hold
nobody wants him much!
that's the first half of a poem I had to memorize and recite before an audience when I was in second grade. I never had a lizard, but I vowed then I would get one someday simply to have a Lizard I call O'Toole.
My sister presented O'Toole to me for my 21st birthday--13 years later!--she's a dwarf bearded dragon, otherwise known as a Rankin's Dragon. we've had 4.5 lovely years together so far.
My sister until recently lived in an apartment with her daughter and 2 cats. both cats died recently, one just earlier this week. she said when she got bored of being petless, she might get a lizard or something. well, that lasted a whole day. she brought home 2 second-hand ferrets and a tiny baby bearded dragon, which unlike mine will be full-size when it reaches adulthood.
"guess what I named it."
"o'.... spool?" it seemed logical, and I was close.
"O'Malley!" because... "it's kind of like O'Toole but not"
obviously. I mean, with O'Toole being the only sensible name for a lizard, but with one already in the family...
