Update on things: they're better, although they got worse before that happened. But for now I think my boss is back to mostly ignoring my, my landlord took back the eviction request, my ex is out of the hospital and his parents are there to take care of him, and my new (Linux!) laptop is more than halfway configured! /is a hopeless geek, lolBUT

Back in high school in Poland when I used to do a lot of roleplaying, I mostly played Warhammer (the RPG, not the miniature game - sort of the local equivalent of D&D except darker), Call of Cthulhu, some Vampire and Mage, Cyberpunk, Paranoia (actually used to GM that! lol), and pretty much anything else anyone had.
At Gathering (i.e. the big yearly RP holiday), we mostly play one-shot games, and a lot of them have the whole world made up by the GM especially for that one game. Often pure narrative system with no dice. It's awesome. *_* Other than that... two of my friends have their own fantasy system they've been working on for several years that gets played a lot, D&D has gotten more popular lately and 7th Sea and Neuroshima are catching up, another friend just came up with an I Ching-base system for historical China, and we try various small games we get our hands on (Cthulhu Tech recently - that was sweet!).
The purely narrative single-use worlds are my favorites, I think, since they let you explore all kinds of crazy ideas, and play out events that change all of history without having to deal with it later. ^_^ They also tend to be the most emotionally intense ones, and that's one of the most important aspects of RP for me.
In the US I've played D&D 4 and a short Serenity campaign with my college friends, and I just started in a D&D campaign with a local RPG group I found recently (through LJ, of course). There might be a spot in an Exalted campaign coming up soon too, which would be great.
tl;dr - LOTS, and I like the emotionally intense, purely narrative made-up ones best.
5. Are you secretly a ninja? B||||||| And, also how many pairs of shoes do you own? (ARE THEY NINJA SHOES?)
1x military desert boots (greatest thing ever!)
1x work boots with steel toes (no, I don't do work that requires those)
1x water-resistant hiking boots
1x light hiking shoes
4x leather hiking sandals (they're all the same - I just got a bunch so I wouldn't have to go look for new ones when the first pair fell apart, because they never sell the same ones a few years later)
1x water sandals
1x rock-climbing shoes
1x nice casual non-hiking sandals (just so I own something that's both comfy enough to dance in and pretty enough to get past the dress code)
2x formal shoes (1 from my prom 9 years ago, 1 from my wedding* 4 years ago - I pretty much never wear them, but I keep them in case life ever forces me to dress up as a normal girl, lol)
That's a total of 13 pairs. I will let you make your own conclusions as to their ninja-ness. &hearts
* wedding - long story there, so I won't tl;dr at you about it ^_^

Also, what exactly does :3 mean?
WEDDING: ummm... there was one. I mean-
Geoffrey and I got married 4 years ago, same weekend as my graduation. It was very nice, and all. We'd been dating for 3.5 years at that point, and everything was great.
Then he developed a crush on this other girl, there was an open relationship for a while, but she wasn't into poly, and he decided he cared about her more, so he left. He was honest about all of this, went to relationship therapy with me, and I generally don't think he did anything wrong (stupid maybe, wrong no). Neither of us were into vows, so our wedding didn't actually have any in the first place.
I just- don't expect things from people, on principle. For a while I think I was the only person who knew about all this who wasn't upset with him. Having him cry in my lap about how the girl left him and his mom's mad at him and everyone thinks he's a bad person was both heartbreaking and hilarious.
I was depressed for about two years after that whole drawn-out breakup, and finally got better around this Christmas, when I discovered Girl Genius and then LJ and TST, started making new friends, and so on.
His family is awesome, I still keep in touch with them and see them once in a while. In fact, the Christmas after the breakup he wanted to stay home and work, so I flew up to Alaska to hang out with his parents for Christmas. It was great.
We're still trying to get divorced, because the legal process is long and complicated, and apparently the court messed something up and sent us the wrong forms. It should be the easiest divorce ever, we have no conflicts, no property, no children, already divided up the money, etc. The paperwork still isn't quite working, apparently. Stupid court.
Earlier this year Geoffrey moved to NY because she got a job there. A couple of months ago they broke up (again. did I mention stupid?). A couple of weeks ago he had a bipolar episode of some kind, was taken to a hospital for a week, and I somehow ended up coordinating a lot of this (because he knows few people in NY, and most of his friends don't know how to get a hold of his parents). Now he's back out, supposedly doing well, and annoying me about divorce stuff. Sigh.
THE END (hopefully) (sort of) (probably not though)

It sounds like it turned into a bit of a mess, but still. ♥ It's nice that you still get along and can be there for each other. (We must try forgive loved ones for their stupidity. ;;;;;;)

I- wasn't even trying, it just comes out that way. My brain just doesn't do expectations. (Or jealousy, apparently.)
But lest you think I'm some kind of nice person (fffffff) - this works both ways. Other people don't get to expect things from me either.
Everyone's responsible for their own happiness.
Also, because I'm amused now, have a funny tidbit from the CA divorce process:
The instructions that come with the initial filing for divorce form say "as the cause of divorce, most people choose 'irreconcilable differences'."
Yes, I imagine they do - the only other option on the form is 'incurable insanity'! XDDD
