Thanksgiving. In laws. You do the math.

We're in Houston atm for Thanksgiving with the in-laws. We found a vacation rental property (why in Houston, I have no idea, but it's really nice) and I am cooking there for about 15 people.

I got up early this morning and did the shopping ($400 and I'm not making most of the sides ... sheesh) and came back to start the prep and to get the turkey brined. My FIL's wife asked what I was doing toasting cubes of bread, and when I told her they were for the stuffing, she said "Oh we always have cornbread stuffing." My SIL asked me what I was doing when I was making the apple cider brine for the turkey, and after I explained it to her she said "Oh we usually just have ham". They also apparently always buy their pies from Marie Callendar's but since the rental property I picked is so far away from Houston* they just bought frozen ones instead.

*sigh*

*it's near Sugarland, about 20 miles northwest of Houston. There were a total of six vacation rental properties in Houston. This is the only one which was the right size - the rest were too small. Of course I had forwarded the link to them all to check out before I booked it and they all said it was fine. Still, I get to hear about how far out in the boonies we are all weekend.
