Half full or half empty

The answer to the question of if a glass is half full or half empty depends not on the outlook of the person viewing the glass, but rather the initial state of the glass.  If the glass started as full and half was removed then it is half empty- being that it was not "emptied" completely.  If, on the other hand, the glass began empty and were only filled half way then the glass is half full - being that it was not "filled" completely.
