And all of a sudden I am realizing that weekends for the rest of summer are booked up. It's so weird how time plays out the feast or famine thing. For 18 months, I didn't work, and I didn't do much of anything. I had time but no money. Now, I have a little bit of money (I really like the "getting a pay check" part of working) and my weekends are full.

Last weekend my nieces were in town for the big sleepover at my house, and it went fabulously. Everyone had a great time. We rode on the train. This was Ali's favorite part of the weekend. She's pretty excited to come back because I told her next time she comes, maybe we can ride a BUS. WOO! Am I a cool aunt or what? We went to Saturday Market, got balloons and lemonade, went to explore the animal sculptures around Pioneer Courthouse, went to Grant Park and played and looked at the Ramona statue, took a ride down Klickitat Street, went for a tour of the Cattery at the Humane Society (this was Madeleine's high point of the trip), played with sidewalk chalk in the backyard and got to stay up really late, til after 9:30, by which time Auntie Re was good and ready for a glass of wine. On Sunday morning we went to Laurelhurst park for some playground time and a walk around the duck pond. We hit up Burgerville for a quick lunch and headed down to Eugene, where my mother hosts a family 4th of July party every year. The girls played naked in the pool all afternoon; Dohn and Xander hit golf balls around the yard (my parent have about two acres of lawn). We had BBQ ribs, potato salad, bean salad, baked beans, and cornbread. Blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream for dessert and a massive backyard fireworks celebration.

I didn't do much this weekend. It's been hot and I got sucked into Pat Conroy's novel South of Broad, which Dohn and I are both reading and enjoying talking about it. Next weekend or the one after I'll be catching Star Trek in the Park. Jen and I went last year and enjoyed it tremendously and are looking forward to seeing what they do this year.

The last weekend of July I am attending a family reunion at my mother's house. I haven't seen my Aunt Ann and Uncle Dick since I left Santa Cruz over 6 years ago, and I always enjoy a chance to spend time with my Aunt Teena and Uncle Leon, so I am looking forward to that. The first weekend in August, my friend Sabrina will be visiting from Santa Cruz. She's only been here once before and that was just a drive by, lunch at a pub and back in the car kind of visit. I enjoy introducing visitors to this funky cool city, so that will be fun.

The following weekend is the big annual company picnic for my firm. And then the last week in August I am going back to Tahoe. I am so excited about this. Not only will I be hanging out with my BFF, who's been my BFF for almost 25 years, I will be back at the lake where I l spent the first 18 years of my life. I haven't been back since my mom and Dohn moved to Oregon in 2006. But prior to that, there was a 30 plus year stretch where I swam in the lake every single summer. It is a COLD lake, even in August, but there is nothing quite is invigorating as a dip in the lake and I can't wait.
