I swear, trying to be a healthy eater sometimes feels like an exercise in futility. I don't believe in diets, but I take nutrition seriously. I believe in eating a wide variety of foods, with a heavy emphasis on fruits and vegetables and whole grains and legumes and low fat protein sources. (But I love my cheese and would not want to try to live without it.) I try to pay attention to vitamins; I buy yogurt with Vitamin D and juice with added calcium. I try to make things like nuts and (good) fish a part of my regular diet. At the same time, I believe everything in moderation, even moderation. Once in a while, I just want a bacon cheeseburger, and I'm not going to feel guilty about that.

I try to avoid HFCS and triglycerides. But HFCS in particular is pretty impossible to avoid. For example, yogurt is supposedly one of those super good for you foods that you are supposed to eat several times a week. I recently switched brands because I noticed that my old Tillamook brand didn't include a Vitamin D supplement. I've been buying Yoplait yogurt for the last month or so. Today I happened to glance at the ingredients list and HFCS is the SECOND item on the ingredients list. I was shocked and disappointed. I knew yogurt had a lot of sugar added but I had no idea that it was that much, or that is was the dreaded HFCS.

So what's the deal? Do the health benefits of yogurt outweigh the HFCS? Or does anyone really have a clue? I guess I need to go back to the grocery store and start reading labels... I'm wondering if Nancy's brand will be an okay alternative. I'm also wondering if, at the end of the day, it really matters all that much anyway...
