Tuscany

Day 19.. Location: Paradise.

Tuscany has proven to be more of everything than I expected. I can literally see how people could fall in love with this place, although the way of life itself is not for me. Mostly due to the windy roads, but that can't be helped of course.. very mountanous. Last night, to celebrate my birthday and mourn Marissa's departure, we had a Tuscan meal prepared in our villa by three Italians that couldn't speak a word of English. The only thing we had in common was our love for food -- well, their food -- and we did our best to consume the masses of food they presented. We failed. Luckily, this means Tuscan leftovers for the better part of today.

Mostly motivated by a repeat dinner on the 8th, I've decided to abandon my shorter, smellier counterpart and stay with my parents until the 10th of June. I may or may not take a day trip or seven in that time, its hard to tell. These days have been deemed productive if we manage to find a toy store with a deck of cards. Venturing out into the real world again seems rediculous. Besides -- we have a pool. For those that are curious, our villa is north-east of Siena. Thats in Italy folks. Google map it.

Alright, I've been a tease long enough, lets talk about what I promised, alright? Pronto!

Interesting coincidences.. Have been sparked by random discussions. Most interestingly to me, would be the walking metaphor we saw in Bolonga. We saw a blind person with a cane, being helped across the street by another blind person with a cane. The blind leading the blind. Metaphor city. In shock and awe (yet out of Iraq), we commented profusely on how that seriously must be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Not 2 minutes later, we see two more visually impared Italians assisting each other out of the train station. Freak. Out.

Less interestingly, Graham asked if we had ever seen these bag vendors run from the cops, 2 weeks into our trip. We hadn't. Two minutes later, BAM. Emeril-style. And a day before sleeping in Venezia Mestre on the platform, I mentioned that I was really glad I lugged my sleeping bag all the way to Italy for no reason.

Pruderific America was really stolen from Eurotrip, but is more valid than you might imagine. And I'm not talking about the public nudity or anything like that, but more the laws regarding substance abuse. The whole deal is that its not abuse here. Drinking in the street is allowed and encouraged. Being here makes me realize that there really is no harm -- if people are going to be drunk in the streets, they are going to be able to do it in a pub or on the street just the same. Nothing more relaxing than peacefully strolling down a street or on a beach with a cool beverage of your choice.

I'm thinking thats it for now. Internet is found in this little pub on the top of a hill in a town closeby to our Villa. No reliable wirless, unfortunately. The search continues though!

See you all in two weeks. That is, those of you that live in Victoria. Big Party!

Ciao Bella!
