Where is fair?

So, I came across this article, and I'm curious what you guys will have to say about it.  I think we've all used the expression, "that's so gay," in a way 100% not meant to insult gays/lesbians.  I've even been told by a gay guy he says it.  So, don't you think this is taking things a little too far?  I mean, I really doubt the girl was trying to be mean.  AND how hypocritical is it, that she says that in response to being made fun of for being mormon.  She blatantly gets mocked for religous beliefs and that's ok (to the administration), but making a comment that can be taken as offensive to gays is worth punishment?   Bullshit.  This isn't equal nor is it fair.
