"CAAAAATTTT!!!"

The Student Art Sale was this morning/afternoon. I'm very glad I decided to participate. I took five paintings with me and XenSteph had mostly photo prints along with some drawings. I made sure to buy shirts from Speck before the sale started. (Mine says "Don't Touch Me" in Braille and the one I got for Char shows the difference between badminton and goodminton.) After watching the same people go by many times, the three favorite paintings seemed to be my cat portrait, the cars, and the blue and yellow still life. One little girl was so adorable; she pointed up at the wall and pulled her mom's arm saying, "Mom, Mom, look at the colorful kitty!!" Another woman walked by and stopped, looking at the cat for a long time. Then she said, "I'll take the cat. I have to have it!" So ta-da, Mr. Smolko, the first painting I sell on my own is of a COLORFUL KITTY CAT! It was sad to see the cat go, but now it's someone else's turn to enjoy it. (And I get to enjoy making more! Yay!)

A pair of friends came by later and were arranging some of Steph's essence drawings. They were having a lot of fun looking at both of our art. They bought up all four of Steph's drawings and they also bought my cars painting. The funny thing about the cars painting... earlier this morning, there was a man that was very interested in the painting and came back a couple times, but he wouldn't pay more than $50 for it. I think he might've been upset it was done in acrylics and not oils, but whatever. This lady comes along with her friend and she couldn't believe I was selling it for only $150. So they walked away with four fun drawings and a nice painting. Happy ladies, happy Schladies.

I wasn't expecting to sell anything, but I came out of my first art sale with $200+ more than I walked in with. I'm very happy about it, but at the same time I feel really bad about Steph's turnout. She was the one who had the table to herself and Josh and offered to share with me, and she didn't sell a single print. I feel guilty, but maybe B/W photography just wasn't in the interest of the buyers today, even though both of us thought that was still a trendy thing. :( "Wanh wanh waaaaaah." (By the way, I'll have to look into the business of making and selling pocket trombones.) I hope rainbow cats are still trendy for the next art sale, because that was such a fun painting to do and I will gladly make many more.
