A sad day in the Sippola household today. Reuben (a.k.a.- Reubsed, Ruby Teused, Pubba, Trubba) has passed. Here is her obituary:
Reuben Sippola 1992ish-January 20, 2005
Cause of death: Kidney failure, old age, lethal injection
Reuben came upon the outskirts of the Sippola home late one night in '93, howling an AWFUL howl. Coaxed with food, Reuben entered the light on the back patio. She was gaunt and had a gash in the side of her flesh from a collar, the collar still pierced into her skin. We nourished her back to a healthy form and she adopted our family. We were happy to have her. We took her to the vet to get her slash stitched up, and she was diagnosed with Feline HIV (no, this is not transmittable between cats and humans) and given 1 year to live. This diagnosis must have been a huge mistake (the vet re-test her for the disease in '96 too because her quality of life was no different than that of a cat without the disease, but she still tested positive the second round), or else Reuben was just a miracle because she lived on for the next 11 years without any health problems. Reuben was an inspiring cat who touched the lives of my family members...and others who knew her story. She will be greatly missed!
R.I.P. Reuben!
Her spirit has already come back. Tonight at my mama's house, the shelves in the cupboard came crashing down. We think it is Reuben because she lived in the kitchen and slept right next to that cupboard. I guess it could always just be a coincidence too. I mean, the shelves did have a lot of heavy canned goods on them.
