*sigh* You guys, I don't even know what to do. I knew the money would matter to my parents, but I just feel so terrible about it. I need to find some way to earn some money while I'm here or I'll go crazy. I feel so guilty. My mom will barely speak to me, she's so angry. And she has a right to be ( Read more... )

:( The only thing I can think to suggest is housework, maybe some cooking, so your parents don't have to do it?

I went back a few entries and I can't seem to find what money you're talking about. :/ Would you mind filling me in?

I'm really sorry you're having trouble, though, sweetheart. I know how bad guilt with your parents can be. *hugs* It will be okay.

The money I paid to get my tattoo, which was not cheap. And the fact that my mom hates tattoos as it is.

Oh, gosh, I thought you meant you wasted tuition money or stole or something. This is definitely something that will blow over; your mother will totally forgive you. ♥

So basically I doubt you can get a job for the winter break because you're just more part-time help and they can get more reliable help from high school kids (you'll have to be replaced once the break is over). So when you go back to college, bring your passport with you (if you have one) and fill out an I-9 form and look for a job on campus. Usually they have jobs where people sit at desk in residence halls and they don't mind if you do homework while you're working (but you should make sure to ask). Working at a library is not so bad, either. Stack maintenance is boring but relatively easy (though you might have to learn the Library of Congress system).

Unfortunately, with the recent budget crisis that UB is suffering, they have limited a majority of their positions to work study only.

However, there is a public library within walking distance (a-hem) from her dorm. I keep telling her that libraries are awesome places to work, but hearing it from a librarian is not really convincing.

Oh, that's true. I'm not familiar with the UB area but there are probably some local part-time jobs (and things like tutoring middle/high school kids).

Yeah, I actually just stopped working at one of the libraries at my school (due to time restraints), and it was definitely a pretty good job.
