When my brother got home, he conversed with me through post-its, asking me who I was talking to online, what store I wanted to go to, and what my bed time was. I took him with me to go pick up a couple books. I had a nice long talk with my brother on the way to Borders, and then Barnes & Noble. We translated the Punjabi titles of our relatives into English. I'm glad I was able to clear up the difference between a grandmother and an aunt. The conversation went on about the future. I told him about being a gentleman by holding doors, saying excuse me after bodily functions, and the like. I told him he wouldn't have a girlfriend if he didn't have manners. His response was that he didn't want to grow up because he would have to worry about things, the way every one in our family worries. He told me that he's going to have to take care of his baby boy when the baby's mother goes to work. Naively, he asked, "What if he drools on me?", and chuckled afterwards.
He's quite mature for his age. He's amazingly smart, and very observant. I love him.
Goals for the summer (SIX MONTHS AWAY!!): Spending time with my brother, family, Amrit, friends; reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Moral Politics by George Lakoff, and hopefully, something by Oscar Wilde.
