i didn't watch the wet seal vid, i saw them start to cut and i was done. but on the peta site that houses the video, they complain about wet seal using rabbit fur. then they say "watch this video and you'll understand why people are boycotting wet seal." the video is of raccoons being skinned alive. now, raccoons aren't rabbits. and i didn't watch ( Read more... )

Subject: wetseal video>>validity?

alright, now i dont mean to offend with this email, and i just want to
get that out of the way right off the bat. i'm a big advocate of animal
rights and i respect your organization from what i know of it.

here is the page in question:
http://www.peta2.com/takecharge/t-wetseal.asp

i saw the link, i went to it, i watched the video (as much as i could
stomach), i was outraged, sent it to friends, signed the petition, got
other signatures, et cetera, et cetera. believe me, i'm one of the
strongest opposers of preying on innocence (whether it be animals or
humans) that you could find, so naturally, i was apalled and horrified.
however, what i would like to ask is how this video was obtained, and
whether or not there is substantial evidence in the video that these
acts are being committed by anyone who is remotely tied to wetseal.

where does one find such a video? why would one want themselves video
taped doing such a thing? i dont mean to suggest anything with these
questions, but certainly these are troubling things to wonder. with my
name on an online petition that is being circulated through
god-knows-what, i think i, as a supporter of your organization and your
cause, am entitled to some answers. and please don't skirt the question
or beat around the bush, because i will remain persistent in being
answered.

thank you for your time, and i certainly hope to recieve a response.

sincerely,
mike d.

email from peta guy:
Thanks for your e-mail. If you read the feature at
http://www.peta2.com/takecharge/t-wetseal.asp, you'll find that our
campaign is aimed at getting Wet Seal to stop selling rabbit fur and
fur-trim, though we are opposed to the sale of all fur, including that
of raccoons and foxes as seen in the video. The fur industry operates as
one giant, cruel machine, and the sale of any fur keeps this bloody
business going. The video you viewed is taken from an undercover
investigation into the fur industry in China, where more than half of
the fur sold in American stores originates, but with the globalization
of the skins trade, it is literally impossible to trace the source of
any one store's garments. The animals that are being slammed head first
into the ground and skinned alive are raccoon dogs and foxes, however,
the horrific cruelty they endure is industry standard, and rabbits,
minks, and other animals farmed for their fur suffer the same fate. The
fact is that in this day and age, with so many fashionable and
functional faux fur styles available, there is no excuse for torturing
animals under the guise of "fashion."

You can read more about the investigation at
http://www.furisdead.com/feat/ChineseFurFarms/. Thanks again for your
concern, and please let me know if you would like me to send you some
Wet Seal campaign materials or if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
