I have not posted in ages, but I've been uber busy X's forty. I've been bumped up to 40hrs at work and have been getting all of the training for the promotion. It's going really well, and I think I might actually be really good at this. *knocks on wood* I've also been running around trying to organzie stuff for dave's 32nd bdday , which is this thursday.
I've seen a plethora of movies. My nerd herd and I went to see Thor, which was lovely (kenneth branagh does not disappoint!) Chris Hemmsworth is my new hollywood crush and is more than welcome to come and grab me aroun the waist, swing me around with his giant hands and rub his fuzzy blonde beard all over me. *swoon* as far as meshing with the comics, they did a fabulous job (some things are expected to be changed, but all of the important elements were there and the changes added to the story rather than detract from it and the plot remained true to the characters , which is really the most important thing) The week after Thor, the herd and I went to a midnight showing of X-men First class on the thursday night before it's release. I wont spoil anything for anyone who wants to see it but it is, hands down, the best, most satisfying movie i've seen in years. marval really outdid themselves. I have been reading X-men comics since I was 8 years old, these characters are my family, and this movie did them proud :) This week Dave and I went to a Midnight showing of Super 8. I really really enjoyed it, even though it's only produced by spielberg , it feels like an early spielberg movie. it's adventurous and joyful and just so damn good. it makes you feel like a little kid watching the goonies again. <3's for that.
I've been reading a bunch of books to as I just got a kindle and have been reading a ton of stuff that's either out of print elsewhere or still in hardcover which i cant really afford. I read Wil Wheaton's Memories of the future vol. 1 . It's about the first season of next generation. It's got humerous recaps of each episodes plot, on set anecdotes and all of wil's awkward teenage crusherisims. (and he totally knows that wesley was a dick, he knows why people hated the character, hell , he hates him too, but when your 14 and a writer tells you to interrupt patrick stewarts epic monologue to ask if you can pleeeeeeeeeease sit on the bridge, you just kind of have to do it) I've had a crush on Wil since I was a little girl and he was on the cover of tiger beat, but any trek fan would really enjoy this book.
I read The Weird Sisters by eleanor brown, which i was drawn to by it's shakespearean title. It was okay. The narration drove me a bit batty , it was a third person narrator who kept referring to the three sisters as "we" or "us" or "our" , but it was made clear that it was not any of one of the three main characters speaking , but some invisible other. mayhaps it was a nod to shakespear "when next shall we three meet?" or maybe it was to make the reader feel included as a sister, but I found it unskilled and unbelievably annoying.
last night, i finished "Miss Peregrin's home for peculiar children" by ransome riggs. I really enjoyed it, it has all the elements of a great scary adventure story and the pictures in the book were fabulous old tin sepia photos that left you with the heebies. I would say I would re-read it eventually. I've also been readin a ton of G.K. Chesterton. If you've not read anything by him, please please please seek him out. He is charming and brilliant and wonderful and everything good about writing.
aside from that, i've been trying to squeeze in going to the gym, laundry, WoW, and going to the comic store with friends. I hope all is good and everyone is peachy in LJ land :O)
