I Haven't Forgotten

Nine months after the September 11 attacks, we (my sweet husband and I) took a trip to New York to see Ground Zero and some of the city. It was an amazing visit and I will never forget the day we went to see the area of the former World Trade Center. We were passing through the streets on foot, not really knowing exactly where the site was, and suddenly my "antennea" picked up a strange vibe. The air felt tight and thick and my hair picked up off the back of my neck. I felt sick to my stomach. I told my husband and he knew we couldn't be far and, following my gut, we suddenly started seeing the destruction. The pictures below are from parts of the site...

After we were making our way back, I started having that feeling again. I told my husband we are coming up on something else...Then we reached it. It was a wall of images of fallen fire fighters...standing outside of a fire station which was nestled between the buildings. Sitting just outside the entrance was a fire fighter. All I could say was thank you in a very quiet and humble voice. He nodded with dignity and with tears in our eyes we continued walking. I don't know how many images there were, but I know they lost a lot of fellow fire fighters the day of the attack.

Slowly the hair on my neck laid back down and I wondered about all the dust through out the city.

I have never felt such an intense feeling walking through a place before or since. Can you imagine how it would be walking through some of the other places in the world that have experience such tragedies or even worse? Maybe you have. I wonder how you felt.

So many months had passed, so many years have passed and still the recovery continues today.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those that suffered that day and all those that have suffered and are suffering in the world today.

LOVE,
Shannon
PS: I love you Obi and appreciate all the things you do for us!!! Oh honey, we also were at that show, what was it? United Nations Aid Convention or something...?
