my mom flicked on The lord of the Flies for 5 minutes. when Piggy is sitting on the ground crying "They broke my glasses" i made her turn it off.
i knew it disturbed me, but if she hadn't, i would have had to leave the room and i still feel very unsettled. i didn't realize it disturbed me this much.
when i read it for class in 8th grade, i read it in one day, staying up till 3 to finish it, because i knew if i put it down, i'd never pick it up again. and i never did. but it left such an impression that a month later on the test i had to write onto the back of the test paper because i quoted whole paragraphs accurately.
my dreams and nightmares are hardly ever based on things i've actually experienced. this book gave me nightmares.
