i figured out one reason i hate LOL so much! it's equivalent to a laugh track. if someone is going to make a joke, especially when it's written so they should have taken time to think about it, they should have the end-goal and confidence to make it good enough that people will take the joke as the cue to laugh, rather than needing the flashing sign to do so. when things are funny, people laugh.
