Huzzah.
I feel compelled to write and remind everyone that I continue to draw breath and MY IMPENDING RETURN IS NIGH! CAP CAP CAPPITY CAPS LOCK!
So, yeah, still breathing and planning to return to Peterborough in a boot a week and a half. Prepare.
I'm finding myself a little overwrought recently. Knowing that I am leaving soon and attempting to prepare myself emotionally and physically... trying to wrap up work/projects/relationships here is taking up most of my mental time. So, when I was talking to my mother the other day about Trent U deadlines and money I just about nearly started to cry, for no good reason at all other than the fact that I'm feeling that I'm stretched very thin at the moment; I feel that just getting home is a feat that requires so much effort... I just want to leave all the Peterborough/Chapleau issues until I'm back in either Peterborough or Chapleau, though I realize that this is nearly impossible. My mum was particularly occupied with all this bureaucratic crap that Trent wants done via the interweb. She just, went on and on about this new way Trent does things (*sigh* goddamn Trent and its passion for ball-busting) and what does it mean and could I please take care of it... each passing moment of her talking at me added to the feeling of being overwhelmed. This feeling culminated in an action that rarely happens... I interrupted my mother and told her "I can't mum". That's it, I can't... I just cannot cope with it. She's properly, and rightfully, frustrated with me and I'm frustrated with myself. Blech.
Happier things now. I finally made it to New York with Tess last week! It was a great time, though I was bummed that it takes so long to get everywhere in the city. We didn't get as much done as we wanted. We perused the streets and took in the sights and saw what we could.
Rundown:
- took a train to the city, got lost in Grand Central Station, stopped at a small park where the city was screening the original "Manchurian Candidate" on an outdoor screen (tre cool, lots of people), rode on a little bike rickshaw through Times Square, got lost in subway (the public transport system, not the restaurant), became overwhelmed by people, saw a huge New York rat that I mistook for a SMALL CAT climbing the concrete steps of an apartment building in Harlem, got lost in East Village, found ritzy apartment of friend who offered us lodging, lodged.
- awoke, bought blue daisies for kind New York friend.
- took subway uptown (didn't get lost), got out by chance at WTC site (ground zero), felt the weird energy of the place, became offended by the japanese tourists taking pictures and the ghetto scammers trying to hock WTC merch (t-shirts and postcards on which were pictures of the towers falling), had a moment, left.
- perused uber fancy New York department stores, tried on an aqua marine flow-y dress that made me look like an earth goddess, ripped dress a little taking it off, saw price tag and realized that I just ripped a $700 dress, hid dress in pile of fur coats, ran away.
- bought silly I <3 NY t-shirts with Tess.
- went to harbour, took Statton Island Ferry past the Statue of Liberty, got stuck on Statton Island, was almost recruited by the New York Police Department (seriously), got name/extension/badge number of an Officer who told us that we would always have a friend on the force in New York, took advantage of sentimentality and scammed free pens, post-its and key-chains off of Officer Browning.
- went to beer and pizza lunch at classy Irish pub... to prove how classy I was, I stole my fancy beer glass.
- took a yellow NY taxi cab!
- realized we only had time for one museum: would it be the Guggenheim or the Museum of Sex?
- went to Museum of Sex, had an absolute blast at the exhibits, exhibit 1: "Peeping, Probing and Porn: 400 years of Sex in Japan" (wished that Dave were there in all of his "Silent Cry" glory), exhibit 2: (something to the effect of) "Smokers and Stags: the fledgling years of porn and the age of the Stag party" (wished that Sharon were there in all of her Women's Studies glory), exhibit 3 consisted of the museum's permanent collection and had everything from sex ed (or, non-sex ed) for teens from the 50's to a fully loaded, virtual reality sex simulator (which we weren't allowed to touch, dammit), bought silly souvenirs, gave serious consideration to buying Sharon this little tube of red hot lipstick that, one twisted, was revealed to actually be a vibrator - Sharon I almost bought you a tiny lipstick vibrator!! unfortunately, novelty like that doesn't come cheap and it was a little too rich for my blood.
- missed train home, got sassed by Grand Central Station info desk people, sassed them right back, caught next train, slept!
Wheeeee!
My whereabouts for the next two weeks is going to look a little something like this (sorry to re-iterate for those who have heard me rant and try to work out this plan before):
August 20th: Buck's Rock Staff Party.
August 21st: Leave Buck's Rock, go to Maine with some fellow co-workers, go camping etc;
August 23rd (mid-morning): get ride to Boston, catch Greyhound home to Peterborough.
August 24th (aka; 16 hours later): get off of bus in glorious Peterborough.
August 25th: Deadly Snakes in Toronto.
August 26th or 27th: home to Chapleau.
August 30th or 31st: back to Peterborough.
September 1st: Kerri's brain and spirit are broken, preparations for class begin after a few days of EXCLUSIVELY SLEEPING!
GUESS WHAT?! I've just recently found out that a few of my mates from Buck's Rock -amidst their travellings- are going to be in Toronto on the 24th and 25th! Included in this group is my croc-wrastlin' buddy Tess! Those of you interested in meeting and hanging out with some of the international friends whom I have been living/working/partying with at Buck's Rock this summer, should discuss some plans with me. Nothing extravagant, but I was hoping to head to Toronto at least early afternoon on the 25th before the concert so I can lunch with everyone and maybe show them around a bit! Just puttin' it out there!
I just got some pictures of Tess that I'd like to share, in case some of you have forgotten what I look like... unfortunately... I don't have the time to tool around and figure this out... I'll have to check with one of you as to how I can easily put photos up without a paid account... I know it can't be that hard!
lovelovelove, see you lot soon!
My regards,
- k.s. xxxooo
