the security of scharnweber hq was breached this afternoon between 1500 and 1730 hours. when i arrived home circa 1800 and entered my room, i noticed my laptop was not in its customary place on my desk. i asked brent and tamara if the door was still double locked when they came home, which they affirmed. when i told them my computer was missing, tamara noticed that her window had been forced open and the latch broken, and that all of the cans and items on the window ledge had fallen to the ground. she also recalled that when they came home, a pan and some plates were on the ground in the kitchen and the window there was slightly open as well - she thought the things had just fallen off of the dishrack and put them back up. closer inspection proved that the grate under her window was also broken. we looked around our rooms and nothing else had been taken or ruffled through, and my camera was still sitting on the window ledge in plain view. my windows had been shut for an entire month so nothing in my room could be seen, neither from the street nor from the courtyard. i had left my light on in my room so from outside appearances it would seem that i was home. the combination that absolutely nothing else had been taken and that we were broken into in the short period of time that no one was home, despite the fact that my light (which you could see from the courtyard) was still on, makes me think that were watched and our exits were noted. not a pleasant feeling. actually i feel sick to my stomach and i want to get out, i don't want to spend another second in this apartment cleaning or painting, but i guess i don't have much of a choice. in any case my computer is gone, much data has been lost, and i doubt i will much care about updating this journal anytime soon. what an awesome way to say goodbye to berlin... sike
adieu
