Like seascapes, stars, waves and tides, Shostakovich is truly inspiring with his very own approach to old forms. The forms are old,  yet the harmonies unmistakably Shostakovichian. Serenity seems to rise, finding its place despite the violent cosmos of cascading notes teetering down as though lost forever, then without notice, it disappears as quickly as it comes upon entry of the fugue as the first voice continues to attack with acerbity. The chase continues as the voices mingle and tingle around each other in a playful brawl...
