So, I was watching the Simpsons today and I came to a strange conclusion. The episode "Much Apu About Nothing" exhibits startling parallels to our current state of affairs. Here's a little synopsis: A bear wanders into springfield, and people are outraged and fearful. They demand a "bear patrol". However, a tax has to be levied to pay for the protection they need. They are outraged about the taxes. To distract people, Mayor Quimby blames the high taxes on the illegal immigrants (or immigants, as Moe, an illegal himself, calls them).
Interesting, isn't it? It seems like the recent outcry over the illegal immigrants is really a bit of a distraction maneuver by those in power. I mean, people weren't angry about it during the Clinton administration, or for most presidents before it. I feel like it is a problem, but the recent administration has used it to distract us from the more pressing issues (climate change, education, the deficit, it really goes on and on, I mean there's a fucking war going on).
That's about it. It's funny how cartoons predict real life.
Aaron Tramp, if you're out there, please disagree with me. It's been too long since we've argued.
