Oh my good GOD, trying to get DSL hooked up is the most ridiculous pain in the ass.
I called Verizon, but they don't offer service to Dallas. This was a fascinating answer to receive from them, as my parents in Plano use Verizon DSL.
SBC Yahoo (I refuse to include the trademarked exclamation point because any exclamations I have to make about that company would not be "Yahoo!") requires that I have SBC local phone service and, um, how should I say it? Fuck that.
Comcast charges like $50/mo for cable, and, um, how should I say it? Fuck that.
It's looking more and more like I'm getting dial-up. Woe.
Nothing else has happened, really. I got a job working for a researcher at UTSouthwestern; I'll spend the summer interviewing people at the Parkland Psychiatric ER who just tried to commit suicide. This should be slightly more uplifting than trying to get DSL installed.
I spent the weekend in New Orleans visintg my family, which was fun. Ate 6 lbs of crawfish in one sitting, and then later that night played Edward 40-hands with my cousin Amanda and her boyfriend Pip. For the uninitiated, Edward 40-hands involves having someone else duct tape a 40-oz to each of your hands so that you can't use your hands at all; the bottles are untaped only when both have been drunk.
